After taking an early lead, the Biloxi Shuckers (54-52, 20-19 2nd Half) rallied on two separate occasions to down the Rocket City Trash Pandas (61-57, 20-19 2nd Half) 7-5 on Sunday evening at MGM Park.

Biloxi took the lead when their first batter stepped to the plate as Corey Ray launched an opposite field home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning, his third of the season at Double-A, making it 1-0 Biloxi. It was the tenth career leadoff home run for Ray with Biloxi.

LHP Nick Bennett took the mound for the Shuckers and allowed just three hits through his first five innings, retiring 12 in a row from the second through the fifth. Biloxi’s offense added another run when Garrett Whitley started the bottom of the fourth with a single and moved to third on a two-base throwing error. Tristen Lutz ripped a single to right field in the ensuing at bat, driving in Whitley to move the Shuckers in front 2-1.

Rocket City would take their only lead of the game in the top of the sixth inning when Jordyn Adams, Zach Neto and Logan O’Hoppe hit three consecutive solo home runs, putting the Trash Pandas ahead 3-2. The Shuckers quickly moved back in front in the home half of the frame as Ray and Monasterio both singled to begin the frame before Whitley doubled down the left-field line, once again giving Biloxi a lead at 4-3.

In the top of the seventh, the Trash Pandas used a pair of singles and stolen bases to tie the contest. As they did in the sixth, Biloxi replied immediately to take the lead for good. Yeison Coca worked a walk against RHP Sean McLaughlin (L, 2-4) before Terence Doston singled and Ray was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Monasterio. The shortstop hit into a force out that drove in the go-ahead run, and two batters later Lutz added a pair of runs with a double off the left-field wall, widening the Biloxi advantage to 7-4.

RHP Robbie Hitt (W, 4-2), who had pitched the seventh, recorded the first two outs in the eighth inning before handing it over to RHP Nash Walters (S, 1), who got a lineout to bring the eighth to a close. The righty allowed just a single with three flyouts and a lineout across 1.1 innings to earn his first save at Double-A.

Following an off day on Monday the Shuckers head to Montgomery for a six-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits. RHP Carlos Luna (4-4, 4.72) gets the start for Biloxi against Biscuits’ LHP John Doxakis (2-4, 5.44) for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
