The Myrtle Beach Pelicans began the month of May with their third win in a row by beating the Salem Red Sox 6-4 on Wednesday night. The win puts the Birds at 9-13 while the Red Sox fell to 9-14.
The Pelicans found timely hitting in the victory, as Chris Paciolla (1-3, 2 RBI, BB) hit a two-run single in the top of the fourth to give the Birds a 3-1 lead. Alfonsin Rosario (1-3, 2B, RBI, BB) continued his hot start with an RBI double in the fifth while scoring two runs as well. Christian Olivo (2-5, RBI) provided insurance with an RBI single in the seventh.
Vince Reilly (1-2) grabbed his first win with two unearned runs allowed in 1 1/3 relief innings. Ty Johnson followed with four one-run frames and Shane Marshall tallied his second save by closing out the final inning.
Salem was led by Nelly Taylor (1-4, 2B, RBI) who brought home one on an RBI double in the fourth inning to make it a 3-2 Myrtle Beach lead. Antonio Anderson (0-2, RBI, 3 BB) walked three times and brought home a run.
The loss went to reliever Trennor O’Donnell (1-1) after allowing three runs, two earned in his 2 1/3 inning outing. Starter Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz sacrificed three runs, one earned across his 3 2/3 innings.
The Pelicans and Red Sox will meet for the third game of the series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
