It was clears skies for the final game of the four game set against the Florida Fire Frogs, and the Blue Jays looked to get out to an early start like they had in the three previous games of the series.
Cullen Large hit his second home run in the first inning of a game with a solo shot projected to go 430 feet. It was his fourth home run this year to open the scoring 1-0. All-Star Graham Spraker seemed to have his stuff going early, allowing one base runner through the first three frames.
The tide started to turn in the 4th inning; however, when the Fire Frogs rattled of three straight doubles to take the lead 2-1. Spraker did get all three outs in the inning by way of the strikeout, but another single in the inning gave Florida a two-run advantage.
Dunedin couldn't get into a rhythm offensively getting just three hits through the middle third of the game. This was unfortunate for the Blue Jays as Florida took advantage in the 5th inning with a wild pitch and an error to get runners in scoring position. Those two runners came around to score off of a Greyson Jenista double to go ahead 5-1.
The Blue Jays didn't go down easily though as they threatened in the 7th inning. A lead-off home run from Demi Orimoloye, his first of the year, got the Blue Jays within 4 runs at a 6-2 score. Three singles later and the bases were loaded for the heavy hitting, Alejandro Kirk. He chopped a ground ball to the shortstop that looked to be a fielder's choice, but a quick transition from the second baseman led to an inning ending double play.
Mike Ellenbest came in to finish the game off in the 8th inning, and he turned in two hitless frames. The effort wasn't enough as Dunedin saw their record go to 29-20.
A scheduled off day for the Florida State League is tomorrow for Memorial Day, and the team will be back in action Tuesday, May 28th at home against the Tampa Tarpons.
