Jupiter, FL – In another pitchers’ duel, Jupiter defeated Dunedin 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium to take a six-game sweep. The Blue Jays have now lost nine consecutive games.
Gage Stanifer made his Single-A debut, starting for Dunedin on the bump. He made a strong first impression with a 1-2-3 first frame.
After the Jays left a man on second base to end the top of the second inning, Jupiter got on the board first in the bottom half, scoring twice. Colby Shade started the scoring with an RBI single, and Cristhian Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly.
Eliander Alcalde took over for Stanifer after the second inning, and fired three scoreless, hitless frames, striking out four Hammerheads.
Jupiter added a run to its lead in the sixth, as Shade picked up another RBI knock to push the deficit to 3-0.
In the seventh, Dunedin loaded the bases with two outs for Edward Duran. Duran sent a bouncer back to the pitcher Xavier Meacham, who botched the grounder which allowed Jean Joseph to score from third to make it 3-1. That’s all the damage the Jays could muster, as Arjun Nimmala struck out to end the inning.
The D-Jays applied instant pressure in the ninth, as Joseph opened the inning with a leadoff single. With one out, Victor Arias reached on a fielder's choice and an error, putting runners on first and second. The next batter, Tucker Toman, gave a ball a ride to the corner in left, but Renny Hidalgo tracked it down for the second out. Duran then popped out to end the game.
The Jays went 0-10 with men in scoring position in the loss, stranding 11 runners on.
Dunedin returns to TD Ballpark on Tuesday evening to host Tampa for the first game of a six-game series. Tickets are available online at DunedinBlueJays.com.
