PENSACOLA, FL -- For the second time in four games, Pensacola delivered a walk-off hit to defeat Mississippi 4-3 and tie the series at two games each. With the Braves leading 3-2 going to the bottom of the ninth, the Blue Wahoos scored twice on three hits and two walks to deliver the knockout punch.
Nick Senzel (2-5) had a double and the walk-off hit to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, tying the mark set by Jackson's Kevin Medrano back in June.
Mississippi (6-16, 40-52) scored first with one out in the top of the fourth. Recently promoted to Double-A, Austin Riley singled to left field and advanced to second on a single by Joey Meneses. The other new addition to the Mississippi roster this series, Tyler Neslony, then doubled off the wall in right center to score Riley and give the Braves a 1-0 lead. Travis Demeritte then hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Meneses and making it a 2-0 game.
Pensacola (11-12, 51-42) got on the board in the sixth with a one-out single by Blake Trahan followed by Nick Senzel's double, putting runners at second and third. After a flyout, Gabriel Guerrero hit a two-run double into the right field corner to tie the game 2-2.
Mississippi retook the lead on a wild pitch in the seventh. Kade Scivicque led off with a single and Connor Lien walked. With runners at first and second, Danny Reynolds attempted the sacrifice bunt, however Scivicque was forced out at third. Stephen Gaylor then moved Lien and Reynolds to third and second, respectively, with a well-executed sacrifice bunt. Landoni then drew a walk to load the bases. With Austin Riley at the plate, Lien scored on a wild pitch to put the Braves out front 3-2.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Josh VanMeter singled and moved to second on a walk to Joe Hudson. Tyler Goeddel then singled, scoring VanMeter to tie the game at 3-3. After at walk to Trahan, Senzel delivered a walk-off single to left, handing the Blue Wahoos a 4-3 win.
Luiz Gohara pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. He did not factor in the decision. Danny Reynolds shut out Pensacola for one inning, walking and striking out two batters. Jacob Webb was charged with a blown save and the loss, going 1.2 innings and surrendering two runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Devan Watts faced one batter in the bottom of the ninth, surrendering the walk off.
With the series tied 2-2, Mississippi and Pensacola play game five of the series Monday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium with a first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM. The Braves send LHP Kolby Allard (5-7) to the hill and the Blue Wahoos counter with RHP José López (3-1).
