The Blue Wahoos on Saturday are having a yard sale at their ballyard.
In a first-time event, dubbed “Thrift And Sip At Blue Wahoos Stadium,” there will be a variety of items dating from the first season in 2012 to the past season on display throughout the infield and playing surface at the ballpark.
The event is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. Most of the items will be priced under $15.
Items can be purchased with cash, credit or debit cards. All sales are final. In addition, the Blue Wahoos team store will be open with most items discounted at 30-percent off.
Admission is free. Parking is free. While you’re browsing, there will be soft drinks and alcoholic beverages for purchase. Draft beer will be $2, mixed drinks $5, plus peanuts, chips and Cracker Jacks for purchase.
A party within a yard sale.
“We’ve been wanting to host a yard sale for years now and this seemed the right time,” said Shannon Hannah, the Blue Wahoos events manager, who has been in her role since 2017. “We’ve got a collection of things that have been stowed away and used in the past that we don’t have a need for anymore.
“And with some items, the old saying of ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,’ would apply,” Hannah said, jokingly.
“But basically, we are just clearing out the stadium, making room in our space and hopefully giving somebody else something that they will use.”
The items range from machinery, tables, chairs, computer equipment, scoreboard equipment, banners, signs, all the way to souvenir sponsorship cups, hats, posters, and a variety of memorabilia.
It’s not a yard sale for baseball equipment or uniforms, but the original lockers from the home clubhouse are available to obtain.
Remember that haunted house the Blue Wahoos created many years ago at the ballpark for Halloween? That lumber is available. There’s even some old shoes from Kazoo. So, it’s all sorts of stuff.
There’s all sorts of room to roam, too. It’s a yard sale on the stadium playing surface. Everything will be displayed on the field.
“Come and explore what we’ve got and see if anything fits what you are looking for and can use,” Hannah said. "If someone is handy, or knowledgeable about certain things it’s a great opportunity to see if it can restored and used again.
“It might just someone who can put in the time to restore them and knows how to use the equipment.”
The Blue Wahoos stored much of the items for years in areas underneath the stands of the stadium in boxes and sealed plastic bags. As the front office staff began setting up and removing items for the yard sale, there was plenty of memorabilia uncovered.
The yard sale will aid in providing future space for items when on-going stadium improvements occur.
“We’ve been talking about doing a yard sale for awhile and now we’re doing it, so this should be fun for everyone,” Hannah said.
