LAKEWOOD, NJ - Austin Listi hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th to give the BlueClaws a 3-2 win over Kannapolis in the season finale at FirstEnergy Park.
Listi's home run, his fourth as a BlueClaw, was the first walk-off home run hit by a BlueClaw since Jan Hernandez hit one on May 20, 2016. It also marked the ninth walk-off win of the season for the BlueClaws. Listi hit the home run off Kannapolis' Grant Massey (1-1), the seventh Intimidators pitcher of the afternoon.
Lakewood finishes the season at 33-36/73-66 while Kannapolis heads the post-season to battle Greensboro after a 29-40/68-69 regular season.
Will Hibbs threw two scoreless innings in relief to finish the season at 6-4.
Lakewood opened the scoring with a run in the fourth inning off starter Lane Hobbs. With runners on the corners, Mickey Moniak hit a bouncer to first baseman Gavin Sheets. Sheets stepped on the bag, but then Arquimedes Gamboa got held up in a run down long enough to allow Adam Haseley to score from third with the first run of the game.
In the sixth, Lakewood added a second run on a SAC fly from Luke Williams, driving in David Martinelli who had led off the inning with a double.
Kannapolis would tie the game with a pair of two-out hits in the eighth off Tyler Hallead. Zach Remillard's RBI single made it 2-1 and Casey Schroeder tied the game with an RBI double.
The two runs snapped a stretch of 35 scoreless innings for the Intimidators at the plate and 28 for the BlueClaws on the mound. Lakewood's 28 straight scoreless innings tied a franchise record set last year in the final four games of the regular season.
Adonis Medina gave up one hit and no runs over six innings in his final start of the season. Medina struck out seven and did not walk a batter, facing the minimum 18 over his six innings.
The BlueClaws open the 2018 season at FirstEnergy Park on Thursday, April 12th against the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles). 2018 ticket packages are on sale by calling 732-901-7000 option 3.
