Osterberg Sharp, Wingrove Homers Twice, Claws Roll on Wednesday in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE - Matt Osterberg gave up one run in seven innings, the longest outing by a BlueClaws pitcher this year, and Rixon Wingrove homered twice as the BlueClaws scored 16 times in a 16-5 win over Wilmington on Wednesday night. The BlueClaws, who had been shut out three straight games, scored their most runs in a game since scoring 18 in a 2011 win at Asheville.
Wingrove had four hits and drove in six runs. It was his third two-home run game of the season and he has 11 home runs on the season. The left-handed slugger opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo homer. Jersey Shore added runs on an error and an RBI single from Erick Brito.
The BlueClaws tacked on to their lead in the third on a base hit by Leandro Pineda. They added more in the fifth on an RBI double from Wingrove and an RBI single from Nick Ward. Erick Brito, playing in his second BlueClaws game, and Wilfredo Flores singled home runs in the fifth as well.
Wingrove singled home another run in the eighth and added his second home run of the game in the ninth. That inning also included RBI singles from Marcus Lee Sang and Flores.
All told, the BlueClaws had 15 hits in the game, including four from Wingrove, and two each from Ward, Brito, and Flores.
Meanwhile, starter Matt Osterberg went seven innings and gave up two hits and one run while striking out five. Osterberg (3-3) had thrown six innings on two previous occasions and became the first BlueClaw to pitch seven innings in a game this season.
Wingrove drove in six runs, Brito drove in three, and Flores drove in two in the win.
The teams continue their series on Thursday night at 6;35 pm.
