Bo Knows Walk-Offs

LANSING, Mich. - With two outs in the bottom of the 12th, Bo Bichette chopped a game-winning single into right field, lifting the Lansing Lugnuts (27-20) to a 1-0 victory over the Great Lakes Loons (24-25) on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

It was the Lugnuts' second walk-off win of the season - and their second walk-off win in a four-day span.

J.B. Woodman led off the decisive 12th with a single to left field off Sven Schüller (Loss, 2-2), moving to second base on a groundout by pinch-hitter Ryan Hissey . Yeltsin Gudino reached on a fielding error by shortstop Gavin Lux, with Woodman taking third. Following a Jake Thomas strikeout, Gudino attempted to steal second base. When Great Lakes second baseman Brendon Davis vacated his position to cover second, Bichette sent an easy chopper through the open right side of the infield, bringing in Woodman and ending the ballgame.

Lansing starter Patrick Murphy twirled seven scoreless innings, limiting the Loons to three hits and two walks, striking out one. Jackson McClelland held Great Lakes scoreless through the eighth and ninth innings.

Extra-innings belonged to Tayler Saucedo (Win, 2-1), who pitched the 10th, 11th and 12th, allowing only two hits and one walk while posting four strikeouts.

Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was the only Lugnut with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with two singles. Leadoff hitter Thomas drew two walks in six plate appearances, giving him 37 walks in 33 games.

The Lugnuts go for the four-game series split with the Loons on Monday at 1:05 p.m., the finale of the eight-game homestand. Monday is a Memorial Day Barbecue Bonanza: Five area restaurants will compete in a Q-Off with a special barbecue recipe prepared. Tasting wristbands cost $5 inside the gates, which open at 12:00 noon.
