BOISE, ID: The Boise Hawks, Northwest League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in conjunction with the Colorado Rockies, have announced their 2018 Field Staff. Scott Little will return to the Treasure Valley for his second season as Hawks Field Manager (third overall). Little's staff will be rounded out by Cesar Galvez (Hitting Coach), Bob Apodaca (Pitching Coach), John Pierson (Supervisor of Development) and Mickey Clarizio (Trainer).
"We're excited to have Scott back to manage the Hawks," said General Manager Bob Flannery. "Last year's team was in the hunt for the playoffs right up until the second of last game of the season. With a few returnees and a new crop of players in 2018, I feel we will be in contention again."
Scott Little starts his third season with the Rockies organization (and in the Treasure Valley, as Field Manager in 2017 and as Hitting Coach in 2016) after serving as an amateur scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the previous seven years. Little has coached and managed in the Minor Leagues for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers. Scott also played professionally for eight seasons in the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations.
Cesar Galvez joins the Rockies coaching staff as Hitting Coach after progressing through the farm system, starting with the Grand Junction Rockies in 2013. In 2014, Galvez was voted as a Northwest League Mid-Season All Star while with the Tri-City Dust Devils. Galvez signed as a free agent with the Rockies in 2016. Galvez spent last season playing with the Hartford Yard Goats, the Rockies Double A affiliate.
Bob Apodaca enters his 46th year overall in professional baseball, with 2017 being his second in Boise. From 2003 to 2012, Apodaca served as the Rockies Pitching Coach. Apodaca spent 30 years in the New York Mets system, serving as New York Mets Pitching Coach from 1996 to 1999. In 2008, Apodaca was a member of the National League All-Star coaching staff led by Clint Hurdle at Yankee Stadium.
John Pierson enters the 2018 season in Boise as Supervisor of Development, his first with the Rockies organization. Pierson comes to the Treasure Valley with over 40 years experience working with the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins. Last season, Pierson served as hitting coordinator of the Atlanta Braves.
Mickey Clarizio will also be returning to the Treasure Valley for his fourth season serving as Trainer. Clarizio was named Northwest League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society in 2017.
"We are excited to add John Pierson as the Development Supervisor and Cesar Galvez as a coach to the rest of the returning staff of the 2018 Boise Hawks. With John's and Field Manager Scott Little's leadership, this staff will continue its task of developing some of our newest Minor League players into impactful Major League players while bringing exciting baseball to Boise as well as continued service off the field to this great community," said Zach Wilson, Senior Director of Player Development for the Rockies.
