Riding a five-game winning streak coming into Sunday night's matchup with the Columbus Clippers, the Mud Hens were looking stretch their string into a season long six games.
While Matthew Boyd was excellent, allowing just two hits and one run over eight innings pitched, the Mud Hens offense was not able to get to Columbus starter Shawn Morimando and they fell 2-0.

Matthew Boyd was on the hill for Toledo and had one of his best outings of the year. Over eight innings he allowed just two hits and one run, while striking out eight.
Shawn Morimando was his counterpart for Columbus and pitched one of the better games of his career. Over the course of a complete game shutout, the left-hander struck out six while walking just one.
Each pitcher was on the top of his game throughout their start, with Boyd retiring the first inning of Clippers hitters in short order. Jim Adduci was able to reach on a single, but was stranded there after a groundout.
Boyd went 1-2-3 once more in the second inning, while Argenis Diaz added another single to the Toledo hit column and was also stranded at second to hold the game at 0-0.
Columbus had their first baserunner in the top of third through an Erik Kratz walk, but a pair of groundouts and a lineout helped Boyd work around the lead off baserunner.
For the third inning in a row the Mud Hens singled, this time off the bat of Brendan Ryan -- the Mud Hens shortstop that has hit over .300 over his last ten games. Once more, he was stranded there and the game moved on to its middle innings.
Columbus garnered their first hit in the top of the fourth with a Daniel Robertson lead off single, but Boyd was again able to work around that and induced three consecutive outs.
A pair of 1-2-3 half innings brought the game to the bottom of the fifth when Diaz slapped his second single of the game, but a double play cancelled him out and a flyout ended the frame.
Boyd ripped through the top of sixth by striking out the side and while JaCoby Jones added a single in the bottom of the sixth, the game stood at 0-0.
After Boyd set Columbus down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh, Diaz reached base for the third time of the game in the bottom of the frame -- this time with a walk. As had been the case throughout the game however, he was held there.
The game finally saw its first run in the top of the eighth when Nellie Rodríguez smacked his 10th home run of the year -- a solo shot -- to make it 1-0.
Arcenio Leon entered in the top of the ninth inning for Toledo and allowed three consecutive walks to begin the inning. Logan Kensing then came on with the bases loaded and no one out and got a double play ball with a run scoring to make it 2-0.
The heart of the Mud Hens order was up in the bottom of the ninth, but Morimando was able to breeze through and pick up the complete game shutout.
The Mud Hens close out their series with Columbus and their home stand on Monday night. Myles Jaye is set to take the mound for his first start with Toledo; first pitch is set for 7:05.
