Summary
Bobby Bradley hit his Eastern-League leading 22nd home run to snap a 2-2 tie while leading off the top of the ninth inning, giving the RubberDucks a 3-2 win over the SeaWolves on Friday night at Erie.
Turning Point
Bradley's ninth-inning home run off Erie's Mark Ecker gave the RubberDucks the win. It came a half inning after the SeaWolves tied it 2-2 and gave Bradley the EL's home run lead with 22.
Mound Presence
RHP Jake Paulson started for Akron and went 5.1 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while walking three and fanning four. The run came in the fifth inning when Kody Eaves hit a one-out triple and scored on a error on a grounder to Mark Mathias. The run was earned because Danny Woodrow followed with a single. David Speer relieved Paulson with the bases loaded and one out with Akron leading 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Speer got out of the jam with an infield pop-up and strikeout. He threw a scoreless seventh inning and got the first batter in the eighth, but then Josh Lester homered to centerfield to tie it 2-2. Henry Martinez entered in the eighth inning and retired the final five Erie hitters of the game in order to improve his record to 2-1.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks (62-42) had five hits on the night, but two timely home runs made the difference. The first came in the top of the third inning when Joe Sever hit his seventh home run to right field after Andrew Calica had walked and then stole second base, making it 2-0 Akron. The other big home run was Bradley's 22nd of the year in the top of the ninth inning, snapping the 2-2 tie and giving the RubberDucks the 3-2 win. Tyler Krieger had a pair of singles. His first-inning single extended his hitting streak to a league-best 20 games. Shortstop Willi Castro singled and walked. Calica had a pair of walks and a run scored.
