The Tampa Bay Rays announced today that 2019-22 Bulls manager Brady Williams will join the organization's Major League staff to serve as the Rays' third base coach beginning with the 2023 season. He joins a staff led by Rays manager Kevin Cash, who played with Durham during the 2005-06 seasons.
In three seasons as Durham skipper, Williams compiled a 247-172 mark (.589), earning back-to-back Triple-A National Championships in 2021 and 2022, in addition to a Governors' Cup Finals appearance in 2019. In 13 career seasons as a minor league manager he has accumulated a 943-799 record (.541).
Williams this past season led the Bulls to victories in the International League and Triple-A National Championship Games in Las Vegas, Nevada after the squad tallied an 86-64 mark, including an astonishing 78-48 clip in their final 122 games after beginning the year with an 8-16 record. The 2021 squad, meanwhile, posted the best winning percentage in franchise history with an 86-44 mark, the best mark among all Triple-A teams that year, en route to earning Triple-A National Champion and Final Stretch titles.
Williams' .589 win percentage as a manager in Durham is the highest in franchise history among skippers who have managed a minimum of 200 games with the Bulls. His 247 victories are fifth-most by a Bulls skipper behind Charlie Montoyo (633-515, .551), Bill Evers (613-533, .534), Jared Sandberg (303-266, .532) and George "Possum" Whitted (281-359, .439).
