Lawson fired 8.0 shutout innings in a 4-0 road win on Wednesday, September 15 against the San Antonio Missions.
He scattered four singles on the night, with only two leaving the infield. The sinker-baller induced 12 groundouts, including seven in a row from the end of the second through the fourth. Lawson walked one and hit a batter, who was quickly erased on a 5-4-3 double play in the seventh.
Lawson is the only Hooks pitcher to log at least 7.0 innings in a performance this year, and he’s done so three times – all coming since the start of August. The 8.0 innings Wednesday matched a career high, which he also tossed July 19, 2019 as a member of the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Signed by the Houston Astros as a Minor League free agent on May 7, the 26-year-old from Festus, Mo. went 2-5 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 25 games (10 starts) with the Hooks. In September, Lawson was 2-0 and allowed one earned run and 13 hits over 19.0 innings pitched, including a 7.0-inning complete-game shutout versus Midland on September 9.
