Rome grabbed an early lead in the second inning on Kurt Hoekstra's RBI single. In the fourth Lexington tied the game 1-1 when Hoekstra misplayed a hard hit grounder allowing a run to score. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Leudys Baez delivered a two run triple giving Rome the 3-1 advantage. The Braves made it a 4-1 game in the fifth when Cristian Pache singled to plate a run and added another run in the seventh for the 5-1 final.
Hayden Deal (1-0) gets the win for Rome in relief while Nolan Watson (1-10) is tagged with the loss for Lexington. Deal joined the team from the Gulf Coast League Tuesday afternoon. Braves starter Jeremy Walker enjoyed a good outing going four innings allowing four hits, no earned runs, and three strikeouts.
The Braves and Legends tangle again tomorrow night at seven in game two of the series.
