BREAUX WALKS OFF A WINNER
Josh Breaux homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Hudson Valley Renegades a 6-5 win over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws on Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.
The home run -- Breaux's fourth of the season -- capped a night in which the Renegades were down 4-0 early.
Jersey Shore opened the scoring with one run in the first inning and three in the second. The Gades struggled to find the big hit as Jersey Shore starter Adam Leverett held them to just two hits through five.
In the sixth, Ezequiel Duran and Breaux walked. An Anthony Siegler ground out moved the runners over, and Duran scored on a wild pitch by BlueClaws' reliever Jhordany Mezquita. After a walk to Brandon Lockridge, Chad Bell -- who just joined the Renegades -- hit a three-run home run to center field to tie the game.
The Gades took the lead in the eighth inning on a two-out single by Isaiah Pasteur. But Jersey Shore clawed back on an RBI single by Jhailyn Ortiz.
That set the stage for Breaux, who homered to left off Aneurys Zabala (2-3). As Breaux trotted around third, he and the Claws reliever exchanged words, leading to some friction that was quickly broken up.
The home run made a winner of Elvis Peguero (3-1).
The teams meet in the second of a seven-game series Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
