Langhorne's RBI binge sparks Danville

Brett Langhorne's 2-for-4 game with a pair of singles and a walk may not look overly impressive until his RBI category comes into view.
The Atlanta infield prospect drove in a career-high seven runs, manufacturing offense in virtually every one of his trips to the plate, as Rookie-level Danville blasted Kingsport, 13-0, on Thursday at Hunter Wright Stadium.
"I feel like I was hitting with bases loaded every time," Langhorne said. "It was nice. Even when you're getting out, you're still kind of rewarded with an RBI.

"It was awesome. I think I went into the game having like 10 RBIs. I almost doubled it in the one game, so that makes me feel pretty good, I guess, going into the rest of the season."

Langhorne entered Thursday with 10 RBIs total through his first 26 games before breaking out for Danville. The 22-year-old started with a sacrifice fly to center field to plate his first run in the first inning. He followed that by grounding into a force play that brought home another an inning later. In the third, Langhorne picked up a pair of RBIs with an infield single to second base that was deflected to the right side by Kingsport pitcher Luis Silva.
"After my [third] at-bat, I had four RBIs or something like that," the third baseman said. "I was like, 'This is only the third inning and I've already got four RBIs?' It was kind of weird.
"I was just going up there and trying to put the ball in play, really. Especially when I got two strikes on me, less than two outs, I'm just trying to put it in play to get a run in. I was able to do it a couple of times, and it worked out pretty good."
After striking out to end the fifth, Langhorne came through again in the seventh, lacing a two-run single on a line drive to left after an eight-pitch battle with reliever Marbin Montijo. The 2018 10th-round pick brought home his final tally on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth.
Prior to Thursday, Langhorne's personal best for RBIs in a single game was three, set June 28 against Elizabethton in his fifth professional game. The Virginia native's two hits gave him four multi-hit performances in his last six contests. For the year, Langhorne sports a team-best .298 average with a .796 OPS.

"It's good, I love it." he said of his first pro season. "It's a little more laid-back than college. They just kind of let you figure it out on your own. I struggled a little bit at the beginning, but I feel like I've kind of figured it out a little bit going into the back half of the season.
"Just stay focused. You've got to stay locked in, if you will, every day. When you're doing the same thing every day, it can get [repetitive]. You can just go through the motions, so you've got to just remind yourself every day to stay locked in."
On the mound for the Braves, Dilmer Mejia (3-3) allowed five hits and one walk with three strikeouts over six innings.
