HELENA, MT - For a second straight night, the Idaho Falls Chukars (15-17) jumped out to an early lead against the Helena Brewers (14-18) and went on to win 11-4 at Kindrick Legion Field on Saturday night.
The trouble for the Brewers started with two outs in the bottom of the first. Starter Harold Chirino (1-3) issued three consecutive walks, loading the bases. Back-to-back singles brought in three runs, and the Chukars had a 3-0 lead. Chirino was lifted after just two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on two hits while walking three and facing just seven batters.
After Idaho Falls added a run in the top of the second, Helena got on the board in the bottom of the third. Nick Roscetti singled before Dallas Carroll walked, putting a pair of men on base. Following a strikeout of Gabriel Garcia, KJ Harrison laced a single into left, scoring Roscetti to cut the deficit to 4-1. It was the closest the Brewers would get for the remainder of the night.
The big inning for the Chukars came in the sixth. Reliever Rodrigo Benoit allowed a pair of singles and left the game with two men on base and one out. The next six batters reached before Parker Bean recorded an out, courtesy of three walks, a hit by pitch, a single and a fielder's choice. The Chukars sent 11 men to the plate, using just three hits to score five runs.
Eight of the nine batters recorded hits for the Brewers, with three batters extending their hitting streaks. Nicolas Pierre went 2-for-4 with an RBI, his ninth consecutive two-hit game, Garcia finished 1-for-3 with two walks, extending his hitting streak to seven games and Harrison stretched his hitting streak to nine games with his RBI single. The lone player to not record a hit was Carroll, who reached base three times in the game, once on a walk and twice on errors, ending his nine game hitting streak.
The Brewers return to action on Sunday at 1:05 PM as they wrap up a four-game series with Idaho Falls. Helena sends RHP Nelson Hernandez (4-0, 3.94) to the mound against Idaho Falls RHP Julio Pinto (2-4, 10.87).
