Eastlake, OH – Brayan Buelvas homered for a second straight game, Henry Bolte tripled and homered in his return to the lineup, and the Lansing Lugnuts (5-6) rode a dominant team pitching performance to a 6-1 matinee victory over the Lake County Captains (4-6) on Wednesday at Classic Auto Group Park.
James González (4 1/3 innings), Jack Owen (2/3 of an inning), Mitch Myers (three innings) and Yehizon Sanchez (one inning) combined to hold the Captains to a sole tally, a C.J. Kayfus first-inning home run, in helping the Nuts win a second consecutive game for the first time in 2024.
Buelvas’s second home run of the year, two batters into the ballgame off Jake Miller, set the tone.
Three innings later, Will Simpson doubled and Euribiel Ángeles singled him home to give the Lugnuts the lead for good at 2-1.
In the sixth inning, Bolte – who had been out of the lineup since Saturday – tripled to center field off Steve Hajjar and scored on a Simpson sacrifice fly for a 3-1 lead.
And in the eighth inning, Bolte drilled a two-run homer and Ángeles singled home Simpson again to apply the finishing touches.
Shortstop Ángeles finished 3-for-3 with a walk and two steals, while first baseman Simpson went 2-for-2 with a single, double, sac fly and walk.
The Lugnuts send right-hander Jose Dicochea to the hill at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, opposed by Lake County right-hander Austin Peterson in the third game of the series.
The Nuts play the Captains through Sunday in Eastlake before returning home for a 12-game, 13-day homestand beginning Tuesday, April 23. Tickets are available for purchase at the Jackson® Field™ box office, available for purchase at (517) 485-4500 or online at milb.com/lansing.
