LOWELL, MA-Lowell batters scored six runs on nine hits against the Hudson Valley bullpen as the Renegades saw their six-game winning streak come to a close Monday evening, falling 6-2 to the Spinners at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.
It looked like the Renegades would have another easy night as they started the scoring in the first. Rightfielder
Things stayed that way until the fifth when the Spinners peppered the Renegades bullpen. Leftfielder Luke Bandy grounded a one-out single to left to begin the rally. Jimenez followed with a double to right to send Bandy to third, before designated hitter Cameron Cannon brought in both with a double to left to give Lowell the lead.
Hudson Valley would tie the game the very next inning when Edwards drilled his third homerun of the year over the left centerfield wall. The solo shot tied the game at two.
However, Lowell responded with two more in the bottom-of-the-sixth to take the lead for good. Third baseman Nick Northcutt led things off with a triple to right, setting the stage for catcher Jaxx Gorshans who lifted a two-run homer to left to make the score 4-2. For Gorshans, it was his third dinger of the season.
The Spinners tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth. A double and two walks started the inning to load the bases. After two popups gave the Renegades a chance to get out of the inning unharmed, leftfielder Luke Bandy and Jimenez followed with back-toback RBI infield singles to shortstop to up Lowell's lead to 6-2.
Hudson Valley never really threatened a comeback as they only mustered seven hits for the game and struck out 12 times. Edwards led the way by going 2-3 with a homerun, double, two runs and an RBI. Designated hitter Luis Trevino chipped in with a 2-4 effort on two singles.
Lowell collected 10 hits as Cannon finished 2-5 with a double and two RBI. Jimenez was also 2-5 with a double, RBI and run scored. Bandy also had two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and run scored.
