KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 12, 2017) - Jake Burger drove in the only run for Kannapolis as the Intimidators fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 2-1 in seven innings, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (20-28 Second Half, 59-57) trailed 1-0 through four innings in game two, before the contest was postponed due to inclement weather.
Burger finished the first game 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Evan Skoug recorded the only other hit for Kannapolis, going 1-for-3.
Yosmer Solorzano (3-10) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on three hits, three walks and four strikeouts in five innings. Greensboro starter Kolton Mahoney (5-5) earned the win surrendering one run on two hits while walking two and striking out seven. Nestor Bautista earned his third save pitching a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Alex Call reached on a walk to open the frame, and Burger brought him home with a single through the middle.
However, Greensboro quickly grabbed back the lead in the top of the second inning. After back-to-back walks to lead off the frame, Rony Cabrera lined a single to right field giving Greensboro a 2-1 lead that the Hoppers would not relinquish.
Kannapolis concludes its seven-game homestand on Sunday night with the conclusion of Saturday night's second game versus Greensboro, and the final game of a four-game series. Gates open at 3:30 with the resumption of the suspended game at 4:00 p.m. First pitch of Sunday's regularly scheduled contest is slated for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Game two on Sunday will be a seven-inning game.
Sunday is Kid's Day featuring a players autograph session between games and kid's run the bases after the conclusion of game two. In the series finale the Intimidators send to the mound RHP Blake Hickman (3-9, 6.38 ERA) against Grasshoppers RHP Brandon Miller (0-2, 6.35 ERA).
