Cron slugs way to career-high seven RBIs

While most eyes focused on the Angels are preoccupied by Mike Trout's surgically repaired thumb and Albert Pujols' quest for homer No. 600, C.J. Cron is hoping to draw some attention with Triple-A Salt Lake.
"No one likes the guy that comes out and doesn't give it his all, we're all playing hard down here," Cron said. "When you're in Triple-A, you're kind of just one phone call away. We have to be ready when our number is called and that's my mentality."

He launched a grand slam, a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly in the Bees' 11-10 victory over the Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park. The 27-year-old with 332 games of Major League experience set a career high with seven RBIs in his fourth stint in Salt Lake.
"I know a lot of guys on our team are really good players. We approach every day to try and make a statement and open some eyes and let the rest kind of take care of itself," Cron said.
His previous career high for RBIs in a game was six, a feat he accomplished three times -- twice in the Minors. The first was accomplished for Class A Short Season Orem of the Pioneer League on Aug. 5, 2011. He did it again with Class A Advanced Inland Empire on July 27 the following year and for the big league club on July 4, 2015 against Texas.
Cron first appeared with the Bees in 2017 on a four-game rehab assignment May 7 after suffering a foot injury. He was recalled May 14, but was optioned back eight days later. In 12 Triple-A games this season, the 2011 first-round pick has 14 hits in 42 at-bats with four homers and 18 RBIs.

He came to bat in the first inning against El Paso starter Tyrell Jenkins with Nolan Fontana on first base and launched a two-run shot to straight-away center field. He faced Jenkins in the second with two runners on and bounced into an inning-ending double play.
The Bees strung together three runs on hits from Bo Way and Tony Sanchez and a double by Forrestt Allday before Fontana walked to load the bases for Cron with two outs. The University of Utah product worked the count full and blasted the eighth pitch of the at-bat over the fence in right-center to chase Jenkins.
"I was just not trying to do too much," Cron said. "I was just trying to drive in a couple runs and put the lead up there. I got a good pitch to hit and I put a pretty good swing on it."
He led off the sixth with a popout and bounced out with the bases loaded in the seventh.

The California native got another opportunity with the bases full in the ninth against reliever Jason Jester and fell into an 0-2 hole before lifting a sacrifice fly to center that plated Allday.
"I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit and plate some runs," Cron said. "I'm not trying to overthink anything. Guys in front of me did a great job to get me some opportunities tonight. We held on in the end, so it was a good night."
Allday, in his Triple-A debut, finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI and two runs while Kaleb Cowart added three singles. 
Carlos Asuaje, the Padres No. 9 prospect, tripled and scored twice for the Chihuahuas. Rafael Ortega doubled, singled and scored three times, and Diego Goris and Jose Pirela homered in the third inning for El Paso. Pirela's homer marked his 13th of the season and he finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
