In the top of the eighth, Greensboro took advantage of a pair of walks to plate the game's only run.
Howe (1-0) used the lone run as fuel, following a scoreless seventh with an even stronger eighth inning - striking out two batters in a perfect frame. He earned the win with 2.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts while working around the only hit Lakewood mustered all game. RJ Peace spun a perfect ninth for the save (1).
