LAKELAND, Fla. (May 2, 2017) - Stone Crabs starter Génesis Cabrera turned in seven shutout innings to lead Charlotte to a 2-0 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers Tuesday night at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Cabrera (2-3) allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out a season-high five. The lefty has now recorded four straight quality starts, posting a 1.13 ERA over that span while allowing 15 hits in 24 innings.
Relievers Brandon Lawson and Bryan Bonnell each worked a scoreless inning to polish off the victory. Bonnell picked up his fourth save of the year as the Stone Crabs (11-14) limited Lakeland (14-12) to just three hits.
The Stone Crabs took the lead early when Brandon Lowe homered to left with one out in the top of the first.
Still leading 1-0 in the ninth, Dalton Kelly singled up the middle with one out. Peter Maris followed and pulled a double down the right field line to score Kelly and give Charlotte a 2-0 lead.
Jake Cronenworth's 25-game hitting streak came to an end Tuesday. The streak will go down as the third longest in Rays' Minor League history.
The Stone Crabs will look to clinch the series victory Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Blake Bivens (1-2, 4.50) makes the start for Charlotte against RHP Spenser Watkins (0-0, 2.45) of Lakeland. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
