NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Sacramento River Cats (33-36) dropped the series opener against the New Orleans Baby Cakes (32-36) by the final score of 4-3 after a rare off night from left-handed pitcher Daniel Camarena.
River Cats lefty Daniel Camarena did not have his best outing for the River Cats as he allowed four earned runs and eight hits in five innings pitched. He struggled against New Orleans' first three hitters who combined to hit 7-for-11 with three RBI and all four of the Baby Cakes' runs.
The River Cats pulled within one run in the fifth inning after a two-run home run to left-center field from Orlando Calixte. Calixte went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ryder Jones added two hits of his own, but New Orleans starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara kept the River Cats fairly quiet as he allowed just four hits in seven innings.
The River Cats are back in action for a Father's Day matinee for game two of this series. Right-hander Mike Connolly (0-0, No ERA) comes up from Double-A Richmond to make a spot start for Sacramento while lefty Dillon Peters (0-3, 8.69) takes the mound for New Orleans. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.
Additional Notes
• Calixte's home run was his ninth of the season and his first since May 29. Calixte only trails Chris Shaw (12) for most home runs on the team.
• Tyler Rogers was tremendous out of the bullpen in relief of Camarena. Rogers struck out two batters and only allowed one hit in two innings of work.
