ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists First-Baseman, Cam Fisher, made some history on Wednesday night in Asheville’s 15-12 win over the Rome Emperors. Fisher became just the third Tourists player in the last two decades to hit three Home Runs in a single game. Scott Schreiber accomplished the feat in 2021 while Corey Dickerson in 2011 had a pair of three-homer games for Asheville.
Rome used a three-run Homer in the top of the first to take an early lead. Narbe Cruz ripped a two-run single and Luis Encarnacion belted a Grand Slam, all in the bottom of the first inning, that gave Asheville a 6-3 lead after one.
The Tourists used a John Garcia RBI double and Fisher’s first Home Run, a two-run blast in the fourth, to take a 9-4 lead. Rome scored the game’s next four runs but Fisher clubbed a solo Home Run in the seventh to put the Tourists in front 10-8.
The Emperors hit a Grand Slam in the top of the eighth to go on top 12-10. After the Tourists loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, Garcia tied the game 12-12 on a groundball coupled with a throwing error. The next batter, Fisher, gave Asheville the lead for good with a 425-foot three-run Home Run over the wall in right-center. Alejandro Torres worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the win.
Fisher finished the game 3-for-4 with four runs scored and six RBI. The two teams combined for 27 runs, 28 hits, seven Home Runs, and two Grand Slams.
