Colorado Springs, Colo. – After over a year with no baseball at UCHealth Park, the Rocky Mountain Vibes returned to action with an incredible Opening Day performance in a 2-0 win over the Grand Junction Rockies. Starting pitcher Angel Camacho was sensational in the Vibes win, fanning four batters and allowing zero runs. Camacho went seven innings and tossed 99 pitches in what was a gem of an opening day for the 17-year old ace out of La Paz, and a performance that fans will surely remember.

The game was a chess match that also featured a great performance by Grand Junction starting pitcher Skyler Sylvester, who’s only hiccups came in the second inning when the Vibes struck for two runs off of an RBI double by Griffin Barnes and an RBI single by Juan Barboza that made the game 2-0. The score would stay that way for the remainder of the game, as the pitching for both teams was tremendous throughout the contest, as the Vibes only needed a bit of offensive, ousting a ninth inning offensive threat by Grand Junction in the ninth inning with two men on and no outs, and secured the 2-0 victory,

Over 3,400 fans packed into UCHealth Park for Opening Night to see the new-look Vibes take the field, and ultimately win their first Pioneer League game in 2021. After a year that was affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, it was the first time in nearly 20 months that fans packed into the ballpark to see Vibes baseball, and the showing did not disappoint. The Monclova Partnership is off to a terrific start, and hopes to be one that benefits the city of Colorado Springs, as well as the Rocky Mountain Vibes franchise as a whole.

Saturday night’s game is one that will go down in history as a fresh start for all parties involved in the Pioneer League restructure with the Major League Baseball Partnership League, and one that Vibes fans should look back on with great pride. With a record of 1-0 and a young, talented team, hopes are high for the Rocky Mountain Vibes in 2021. The Vibes take the field again Sunday afternoon for Bark in the Park sponsored by Pet Pantry Sunday at 1:30 PM, with plenty of tickets still available for purchase at the box office.
