COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps will send infielder Cole Peterson and pitcher Brandyn Sittinger as team representatives to the 2018 Midwest League All-Star Game at Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing, Michigan on June 19.
The nominations are the first for the current 'Caps. The Midwest League unveiled the rosters on Wednesday based on a vote of league managers. Bowling Green led all Midwest League Eastern Division teams with six All-Star selections.
Peterson has been one of the standout players among Whitecaps position players this season - especially on defense. His catch on a fly ball during the May 22 'Caps victory over Fort Wayne ranked as that night's No. 3 play on the ESPN Sportscenter Top 10. The 22-year-old has made numerous highlight-reel plays this season but has been just as effective at the plate. Peterson enters Wednesday hitting .276 with 15 RBI and ten stolen bases in 54 games - ranking second in the Midwest League in games played.
Sittinger, a right-hander from La Grange, OH, makes the team in his second year in West Michigan after finishing the 2017 campaign with the club. Sittinger is 2-0 in 11 games this season and has struck out 31 batters in 24 innings of work. The 23-year-old was named the 2016 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year after his final season at Ashland University, and pitched well in his 2017 stint in West Michigan, going 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA in seven games.
The Whitecaps enter play on Wednesday a 29-28 record - placing fourth in the Midwest League. Last season, the Whitecaps sent seven players to the Mid-Summer Classic in infielders Blaise Salter, Josh Lester, outfielders Jake Robson and Danny Woodrow along with pitchers Austin Sodders, Greg Soto, and Jason Foley.
