EASTLAKE, OH – After each series this season, the Lake County Captains will spotlight a Captain of the Week, presented by Official League, showcasing a player and their strong performance over the previous week.

For the weekend of July 19 through 21, Lake County is recognizing C Johnny Tincher as its 13th Captain of the Week for the 2024 season.

The Lake County catcher had arguably the best offensive outing of his Minor League career on Saturday, July 20 at Fort Wayne. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a two-out grand slam that capped off a six-run first inning for the Captains. Lake County went on to win the game 10-4, which was the team’s second victory of its three-game series sweep of the TinCaps.

Tincher’s homer was his first career Minor League grand slam, and his performance secured his first career Minor League game with multiple extra-base hits. After hitting just one home run in his first 36 games this season, the 22-year-old has now homered in back-to-back contests.

Tincher is currently on a four-game hitting streak, which is tied for the longest active streak for a Captains hitter with OF Jorge Burgos. During this stretch, Tincher is hitting .467 (7-for-15) with one double, two home runs, six RBI, one walk, a .500 on-base percentage, a .933 slugging percentage, and a 1.433 OPS. His first home run during this span was a two-out solo shot on Sunday, July 14 versus Lansing.

Tincher also had an impressive series against the Lugnuts from July 9 through 14. He hit .417 with five hits, one run, one home run, two RBI, a .417 on-base percentage, a .667 slugging percentage, and a 1.084 OPS in three games.

So far this season, Tincher has recorded 24 hits, three doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, and 17 walks in 38 games. Defensively, he has caught six runners stealing in 30 games at catcher.

Tincher was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Washington. The right-handed hitter had a strong four seasons with the Huskies, hitting .297 with 135 hits, 29 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs, 77 RBI, eight stolen bases, a .374 on-base percentage, a .464 slugging percentage, and an .838 OPS in 132 games. He earned All-Pac-12 honors in each of his final two seasons, and was named to the All-Pac-12 Defensive Team in 2022.

Upon being drafted by the Guardians, Tincher was assigned to the Single-A Lynchburg Hillcats on August 8, 2023. After being placed on the 7-day injured list for over a month, he played two games with Lynchburg, tallying one hit and one run.

Tincher will look to sustain his recent success this week, as the Midwest League East First Half Division Champion Captains will continue their nine-game road trip with a six-game series against the Great Lakes Loons. The series is set to begin on Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Dow Diamond in Midland, Michigan. All six games will be broadcast on the Bally Live app and MiLB.TV, with social media coverage courtesy of @LCCaptains on X and Instagram.
