Captains and Dragons to Meet in Dayton and Eastlake for Home-and-Home Series

Lake County and Dayton are scheduled to play games seven through 12 of their 18-game regular-season series this week.

EASTLAKE, OH – The Lake County Captains (5-3, 46-28) head to Day-Air Ballpark to face the Dayton Dragons (5-4, 39-36) Monday through Wednesday before returning to Classic Auto Group Park to square off with the Dragons from Thursday through Saturday.

STANDINGS

  • Lake County (5-3) is second in the Midwest League East Second Half standings, trailing first place West Michigan (High-A, Detroit Tigers). The Captains hold a 7.5 game lead over the Dragons in the MWL East overall standings.
  • Dayton (5-4) is third on the Midwest League East Second Half leaderboard, sitting two games out of first and 0.5 games back of Lake County for second place.

LAST TIMES OUT

  • Lake County won four of five games against Great Lakes, winning the first four games before falling 12-10 on Sunday in a slugfest. Saturday’s game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Aug. 15 at Classic Auto Group Park.
  • Dayton won five of six games against Fort Wayne, only losing in the series finale 5-1 on Sunday.

  • RHP Rorik Maltrud earned his first High-A victory in his first start as a Captain on June 27 versus Great Lakes, allowing one run while fanning five across five innings. Since May 31 with Single-A Lynchburg and Lake County, Maltrud’s 0.35 ERA is second in MiLB in that span.
  • LHP Matt Wilkinson, Baseball America’s No. 30 Cleveland prospect, leads qualified Minor League pitchers with 14.69 strikeouts per nine innings and is second with a 42.6% strikeout rate. He and current Guardians LHP Logan Allen are the only Cleveland Minor Leaguers since at least 2005 to reach 100-plus strikeouts through a team’s first 70 games.
  • C Cooper Ingle, MLB Pipeline’s No. 30 Cleveland prospect, ranks second in the Midwest League with a .330 batting average, riding an eight-game hit streak and 14-game on-base streak. Since May 17, his .477 on-base percentage ranks fourth in all of Minor League Baseball.
  • INF Angel Genao, Baseball America’s No. 65 overall prospect, batted .471 (8-for-17) June 25-30 versus Great Lakes, the second-best clip in the Midwest League in that span. Genao ranks tied for third in Single/High-A with 86 hits and has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games.
  • OF Jorge Burgos, the June 17-23 Midwest League Player of the Week, ranks second in the MWL in batting average (.400), home runs (four), slugging (.829), and OPS (1.279) since June 18.

5 PLAYERS TO KNOW – DAYTON

  • INF Cam Collier, MLB Pipeline’s No. 3 Cincinnati prospect, is tied for third in the Midwest League with 13 homers and is fifth with 47 RBI. Collier homered in back-to-back days on June 27 and June 28.
  • OF Hector Rodriguez, MLB Pipeline’s No. 12 Cincinnati prospect, leads the team and is eighth in the Midwest League with a .297 batting average. Rodriguez is the MWL’s fourth toughest hitter to strikeout, posting an 11.9% strikeout rate.
  • INF Sal Stewart, MLB Pipeline’s No. 6 Cincinnati prospect, ranked tied for sixth in the Midwest League in OBP (.524) and eighth in batting average (.412) from June 25-30 against Fort Wayne.
  • RHP Luis Mey is tied for fourth in the Midwest League with seven saves in a team-high 19 opportunities. The fireballer holds the Dragons franchise record for fastest pitch at 103 miles per hour, set on April 18 versus Fort Wayne.
  • OF Jay Allen II, MLB Pipeline’s No. 25 Cincinnati prospect, leads the Dragons and is 11th in the Midwest League with a .390 OBP. His .819 OPS is second on the team and 12th in the Midwest League.
