JUPITER, FL – In what was mostly a pitchers’ duel with combined eight hits and 1 hour and 54 minutes of game time, the Palm Beach Cardinals (68-41, 31-12) defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads (57-52, 21-22) by a final score of 2-1. In the regular season “Dual of the Dean” series, Palm Beach is now 12-6 against Jupiter in 2024. It became the fastest game of the season for Jupiter and the second-fastest game for Palm Beach behind only a 1 hour and 52-minute game back on June 5th in a 3-2 win vs. Dunedin.

The first three innings of the ballgame featured no runs between Palm Beach starting pitcher Jose Davila (W, 4-5) and Jupiter starter Keyner Benitez (L, 0-4).

In the top of the fourth, the Hammerheads got themselves the first run of the game. With two outs, JT Mabry doubled down the left field line and Victor Ortega drove in Mabry on an RBI single to give Jupiter the early 1-0 lead.

However, Palm Beach responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. After JJ Wetherholt reached on an error by Jupiter shortstop Carter Johnson, Sammy Hernandez would pick up his 40th RBI of the season with an RBI double to left field to tie the ballgame. Then, Jose Suarez hit an RBI single to put the Cardinals on top by a 2-1 score.

After the fourth inning, both pitching staffs were in cruise control. Davila finished his start with six innings and allowed just one run on five hits, one walk, and one hit batter while earning seven strikeouts. Benitez finished with five innings and two unearned runs allowed as he awaits his first victory of the season.

Nelfy Ynfante (Sv, 1) came out of the Cardinals’ bullpen in relief of Davila and at one point helped Palm Beach retire 12 Hammerheads’ hitters in a row as he secured the 2-1 victory, and his first Single-A save in his home debut.

Game four of this six-game series between Palm Beach and Jupiter takes place on Friday, August 16th with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Click here to purchase your tickets.
