Sam Tewes got the start and gave up a hit to the leadoff batter in every inning that he pitched in. He got his second loss of the season as he gave up four runs (three earned) on twelve hits over the course of 4.2 innings. He struck out four and walked one on the day.
St. Lucie jumped on the board in the first inning as Jacob Zanon and J.C Rodriguez started the frame with a single each and advanced on a ground ball to Edmundo Sosa. Sosa threw it wide of the base at second and allowed the bases to be loaded for Nick Sergakis. Sergakis hit a double to drive in two runs and take a 2-0 lead.
Palm Beach cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third. Vince Jackson hit a two out single and got to third on a fielding error on Wuilmer Becerra. Jackson scored on a Sosa single to make it a 2-1 ball game.
In the top of the fifth, the Mets added to their lead. Becerra and Sergakis started the inning with back-to-back singles. Michael Paez grounded into a double play and Becerra went to third with two outs. Becerra scored on a Cody Woodmansee single to centerfield and Sam Tewes night was done after he walked Jose Garcia. Winston Nicacio, brought up earlier from the Gulf Coast League Cardinals, took over on the mound. Emmanuel Zabala hit a ground rule double to score Woodmansee and make it a 4-1 score.
Blake Drake led off the fifth inning with a triple over the centerfielders head. He later scored on a Jose Martinez single to center and once again cut the lead in half at 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Blake Drake walked to start the frame and got to second on a Vince Jackson single. Drake and Jackson pulled off the double steal to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Sosa then drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field and made it a 4-3 game. The inning ended with Vince Jackson getting picked off at second by Austin McGeorge.
Gerson Bautista closed it out for the Mets for his fifth save of the season. Nicacio pitched the final four innings of the game, all scoreless while only giving up one hit.
