After putting up eight runs in a victory on Tuesday, the Palm Beach offense was only able to add a single run to the scoreboard on Wednesday in a 2-1 loss to Bradenton.
The lone Cardinals run was scored in the opening inning on an Andy Young single, his first of three hits on the night.
Palm Beach was unable to figure out opposing pitcher James Marvel who threw six innings without allowing an earned run.
Sam Tewes, Marvel's opposition, put together an almost as impressive start. The 23-year-old allowed just one earned run (two total) in seven innings while striking out four.
Out of the bullpen, Eric Carter tossed a scoreless two innings allowing Palm Beach to stay within striking distance.
However, a seventh inning sacrafice fly by Arden Pabst that put Bradenton up 2-1 was the difference maker.
Palm Beach threatened in the eighth with Young and J.B. Woodman reaching to lead off the inning, but neither was unable to score on reliever Scooter Hightower.
The teams will play the rubber match of the series on Thursday. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM as it is the first of three Splash Days at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
