JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Cardinals came in to today looking to split their four-game series with Bristol. The Cardinals were swept in the doubleheader to open the series and avenged their loss last night with a 4-2 win. The Cardinals won big on Tuesday 15-5 to split the series with Bristol at two games apiece.
The Pirates started the scoring in the top of the first with one run. The Cardinals came storming back with three in the bottom of the first and never looked back. They started with three straight hits in the bottom of the first. LuisFlores and MoisesCastillo hit back-to-back singles. Then, LeandroCedeno drove them in with a two-RBI triple (1). AndrewWarner was then hit by a pitch. With runners on the corners, MichaelPerri hit into a double play, but Cedeno scored from third to make the score 3-1.
TommyParsons started the game for the Cardinals. Parsons went six innings, surrendered five hits, one earned run and had six strikeouts en route to his fourth win of the season.
The Cardinals put the pedal to the medal in the third, as they scored five runs. LeandroCedeno was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Two batters later, MichaelPerri doubled and Cedeno scored to make the score 4-1. Perri stole third during DonivanWilliams' at-bat. Williams worked a walk and DarielGomez launched a three-run homerun (6) to increase the lead to 7-1. With two outs, BenitoSantiago hit a solo homerun (2) to increase the lead to 8-1.
Bristol scored two in the top of the fifth, but the Cardinals bats weren't close to being done. MichaelPerri doubled to lead off the inning and went to third on a DonivanWilliams single. DarielGomez then singled to score Perri. After a walk to SanelRosendo, BenitoSantiago launched a grand slam, his second homerun of the game to increase the lead to 13-3.
The Cardinals scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings, while the Pirates added a run in the eighth and ninth innings. Johnson City would go on to win 15-5 and split the series with Bristol 2-2.
The Cardinals used three relievers after TommyParsons. EnriquePerez came in the game in the seventh inning. Perez went one inning, and gave up only one walk. MichaelBrettell was the second reliever used by Johnson City. Brettell pitched one inning, allowed two hits and one earned run. JakeSylvester was the final reliever used. Sylvester pitched one inning, gave up two hits, one earned run, and notched a strikeout.
The Cardinals and the entire Appalachian League are off tomorrow. The Cardinals return to action on Thursday on the road at the Princeton Rays for three games and return to TVA Credit Union Ballpark on August 21st against Burlington.
