JOHNSON CITY - The Johnson City Cardinals will look to close their six-game homestand on a positive note Monday vs. the Danville Braves. The Cards got two hits, an RBI, a stolen base and an outfield assist from Trejyn Fletcher but fell 9-1 to Danville Sunday evening in front of a crowd of 1,878 at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.
Monday will be a Dollar Monday presented by Peggy Ann Bakery. Fans are invited to enjoy $1 hot dogs, chips, candy, donuts, popcorn, Dr. Enuf, Pepsi products, and select beer.
The Cardinal bullpen finished the game with five straight scoreless frames. The Braves struck for two runs in the first, three runs in the second and four runs in the fourth to put the contest out of reach early. Jake Sommers (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (five earned) in three innings of work.
The Braves got four unearned runs vs. reliever Hector Soto in the fourth. Soto remained in the game, holding the Braves scoreless for the rest of his night before giving way to Enrique Perez with two outs in the top of the seventh.
Brandon Purcell scored the only run of the game for the Cards. He led off the seventh with a double and scored on an RBI groundout by Fletcher. Todd Lott reached base three times. He has now reached base in each of his last 13 starts.
Perez and Will Guay combined to fire scoreless eighth and ninth innings. Albinson Volquez (1-1) earned the win for the Braves with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Brandon Parker hit his fourth homer of the season in the second, and Bryce Ball hit his league-leading 10th in the fourth.
