Cards homer twice in 9th to power past Hooks, 3-2

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. -- SS Rayder Ascanio and RF Justin Toerner both hit 9th-inning solo home runs to power the Springfield Cardinals (16-14, 46-54) past the Corpus Christi Hooks (14-16, 47-52), 3-2, on Sunday evening.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-The Hooks broke through first in the fourth inning with an RBI base hit from LF Seth Beer for the 1-0 lead.

-Springfield struck in the seventh to tie it against RHP Willy Collado. RF Scott Hurst started the rally with a one-out double, before taking third on a wild pitch and scoring on an RBI single from 2B Alberto Triunfel for the 1-1 tie.

-Hooks DH Ronnie Dawson swung the Hooks in front, 2-1, in the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run to left field.

-SS Rayder Ascanio led off the top of the ninth inning and slugged the stanza's second pitch out to left field, tying the game at 2-2. Two outs later with no runners on, RF Justin Toerner connected on a solo blast to left field, lifting the Cardinals into their first lead all game, 3-2.

NOTABLES:
-SS Rayder Ascanio's game-tying homer in the ninth extended his hitting streak to 11 games, the longest hitting streak of the season for Springfield.

-RHP Angel Rondon started the game with seven straight outs, finishing with 5.2 innings with just one run on six hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

-Hooks RHP Yohan Ramirez tossed 5.0 scoreless innings to start, allowing just two hits and three walks to keep the Cardinals at bay through the first half of the game.
