Carolina Offense Stifled in 6-1 Loss

LYNCHBURG – Jackson Chourio extended his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games and Zack Raabe went 1-for-4 with a RBI, but the Carolina Mudcats lost 6-1 to the Lynchburg Hillcats on Friday night in Lynchburg, VA. Carolina fell back into second with the loss behind the first place Hillcats.

The Hillcats (27-21) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after getting two runs in the first and two in the second off starter Israel Puello. Lynchburg also scored once in the sixth and once more in the seventh while going up 6-0 on the Mudcats (27-22). Carolina’s lone run of the game came in the eighth when Raabe forced in a run with a groundout.

Puello allowed four runs and seven hits over five innings pitched. He also walked two and struck out four. Edwin Jimenez followed and worked through three innings with two runs allowed and three hits.

Starter Rodney Boone worked through six scoreless with six strikeouts and earned the victory. Boone (3-0) did not walk a batter and scattered four hits. Relievers Hugo Villalobos and Elvis Jerez finished the game with Villalobos allowing a run on two hits over two plus innings and Jerez getting the final three batters while facing only two.

Jake Fox tripled and scored in the first for the Hillcats while going 1-for-3. Isaiah Greene homered in the sixth off Jimenez and went 1-for-4.

The Mudcats fell to just 1-3 in the series with Friday’s loss. They also fell to a 0.5 game back of the Hillcats in the Carolina League North standings.
