MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Carolina's offense was stifled again as the Pelicans pitched their way to a series clinching 1-0 victory versus the Mudcats on Tuesday night at TicketReturn.Com Field in Myrtle Beach. The loss was Carolina's third straight overall and second straight in Myrtle Beach.

Nelson Hernandez started for the Mudcats (6-7, 45-37) and ended up taking a tough luck loss after allowing just the one Myrtle Beach (7-6, 28-52) run over six quality innings pitched. Hernandez (L, 8-6, 4.52) scattered seven hits and totaled five strikeouts while facing 22 and reaching 86 pitches (50 strikes) in his start.
For the Pelicans, it was starter Ryan Kellogg who earned the win as he worked through five scoreless innings before relievers Enrique De Los Rios and Jesus Camargo followed and combined on four scoreless innings to finish the shutout victory. Kellogg (W, 2-5, 4.32) allowed just two hits and struck out two in the victory. De Los Rios (H, 1) gave up three hits and struck out three over two scoreless innings. Camargo (S, 3) struck out two and walked on over two hitless and scoreless frames while earning the save.
The only run of the game came in the last of the fifth when recently promoted Tyler Durna singled and scored on a two-out hit to right from D.J. Wilson. Durna's single led off the fifth and was the first of three hits allowed in the fifth by Hernandez.
Durna went 1-for-3 with a run in what was his Carolina League debut. The Pelicans also saw a two hit night for Aramis Ademan who went 2-for-3 with two doubles in the series clinching Myrtle Beach victory.
Both teams had two doubles in the game with Tristen Lutz doubling for Carolina in the first and Nick Roscetti reaching on a double in the fifth. Neither Lutz or Roscetti managed to move to third in those innings as they were left stranded at second in both frames.
The Mudcats did manage to load the bases in the sixth, but failed to score as De Los Rios escaped that jam by getting Payton Henry on strikes to end the inning. Carolina ended up going 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base in the loss.
Relievers Michael Petersen and J.T. Hintzen worked the final two innings for Carolina. Petersen, in what was his second consecutive night on the mound, struck out two and pitched around a hit while working a scoreless seventh. Hintzen also struck out two and faced just three in the scoreless eighth.
The Pelicans took a two games to none lead in the three game series with Tuesday's 1-0 victory. Myrtle Beach also handed Carolina its fourth shutout loss of the season as Carolina fell to 5-4 in shutouts this season.
The series will conclude on Wednesday night in Myrtle Beach beginning at 7:05 p.m. Carolina will have RHP Noah Zavolas (4-3, 3.02) on the mound for the series finale outing against the Pelicans.
The game will air live on the Mudcats Radio Network, The Big Dawg 98.5 FM and online at carolinamudcats.com via TuneIn Radio. The game will also stream live in full high-definition video on MiLB.tv via Minor League Baseball's subscription service.
