The Albuquerque Isotopes brought the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings Friday night but the El Paso Chihuahuas held on to win 5-2. The Chihuahuas and Isotopes have both won two games through the first four games of the series.

El Paso’s Ryan Carpenter allowed only one earned run in 6.2 innings, which was the longest start by a Chihuahua this season. Albuquerque starter Josh Rogers also pitched into the seventh inning Friday. Matt Festa pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save of the season.

El Paso third baseman Eguy Rosario went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one walk. It was the eighth time this year an El Paso player hit two doubles in a game. Chihuahuas center fielder Oscar Mercado went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the second inning. The Chihuahuas’ other three runs came on two-out RBI hits in the third by Matthew Batten, Rosario and Graham Pauley.
