BURLINGTON, IOWA - Shane Carrier hit a solo home run for the Cedar Rapids Kernels in a 7-2 loss Wednesday against the Burlington Bees at Community Field. With that round-tripper, Carrier has now hit safely in 22 consecutive games and reached safely in 33 straight contests dating back to his time with the Rookie-Level Elizabethton Twins.
The Bees (21-31, 52-69) jumped in front, 4-0, during the third inning. A single by Franklin Navarro coupled with an error allowed Artemis Kadkhodaian to score. Three batters later, Richard Fecteau took a bases-loaded walk to bring in Navarro. Brennan Morgan was hit by a pitch to force in Jonah Todd. Leonardo Rivas scored by coming home on a double play from Brandon Sandoval.

Carrier's blast closed the gap to 4-1 for Cedar Rapids (24-28, 63-59) in the fourth. Carrier crushed a screaming line drive over the left-field wall for his fifth Kernels home run.
Jordan Gore tripled and scored in the fifth to slice Burlington's lead to 4-2. Gore produced a one-one triple and eventually came home on a two-out error.
During the bottom of the seventh, the Bees scored three runs and pulled away to a 7-2 advantage. Todd and Rivas drew walks before scoring on a triple from Fecteau. Morgan followed with an RBI double that capped the scoring in Wednesday's contest.
Ty Barkell (2-6) earned the victory for Burlington against Cedar Rapids' Tyler Watson (0-3). Barkell pitched 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings of relief. He also stranded a pair of inherited runners. Watson gave up four runs - two earned - over six innings pitched within a quality start and a loss.
