DES MOINES - Casey Kelly spun a seven-inning complete-game shutout to lead the Iowa Cubs (26-33) to a 4-0 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (30-27) in game two of a double-header, Wednesday at Principal Park. It marked Kelly's first career complete game and Iowa's first complete-game shutout since Eric Jokisch accomplished the feat on July 30, 2014 at New Orleans.
Kelly cruised through four innings, giving up just one hit to Scott Van Slyke in the second. The righty got into trouble in the fifth, loading the bases with nobody out, but got out of the inning with two pop-up foul balls and a fly to right field to keep the shutout. Kelly ended his outing with two hits and three walks allowed and four strikeouts, grabbing the win to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The I-Cubs were held to five hits, though they made the most of them. The first three Iowa batters of the game reached, plating a run in the first off a Mark Zagunis double. With runners on second and third, the home team pushed its second run of the inning across with a sacrifice fly from Jeimer Candelario.
Iowa padded the lead with a run in each of the third and fourth innings. In the third, John Andreoli walked and eventually came in on a wild pitch. Andreoli would help the effort again with an RBI single in the following frame. Andreoli ended the night 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs and an RBI to lead Iowa's offensive effort.
