Helena, MT - Celebrating his 19th birthday with his parents in town for the first time in 2018, Brewers outfielder LG Castillo put on a show. The Buffalo, NY native drove home three, including a two run homer, helping the Brewers snap a three game losing streak with a 9-2 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars.
Helena starter Wilfred Salaman (W, 3-1) worked in and out of trouble in the first two innings, stranding runners at the corners in the first and forcing an inning ending double play with the bases loaded in the second.
Meanwhile, Chukars starter C.J. Eldred (L, 3-2) had the Brewers fooled early on, retiring the first ten batters he faced. With one out in the fourth, he allowed his first hit, a first pitch double to Jean Carmona. Chad McClanahan flew out to center to move Carmona to third. David Fry singled home Carmona to make it 1-0 Helena, and Eddie Silva followed with an RBI double of his own to extend the lead to 2-0. That brought up Castillo, who blasted a fastball from Eldred to dead center field for a two run homer, giving the Brewers a four run lead.
Idaho Falls countered with a two run fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Nate Eaton and an RBI single from Reed Rohlman, but the Brewers responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame. With two on and one out, Carmona singled home a run, and then McClanahan drove one home with a sac fly. Fry doubled to score Carmona, and Silva doubled to plate Fry. Castillo then delivered again with a scorching single to left, bringing Silva home to make it 9-2. For Castillo, it was his fifth straight game with multiple RBI, and now has a career best nine game hitting streak.
Salaman earned his third win with five innings of two run baseball. He is the only Helena starter to complete five innings in every start, and has not allowed more than two runs in any start.
The Brewers bullpen combined to shut out the Chukars over the final four innings, as Roberto Delgado, Chad Whitmer, and Peter Strzelecki combined to allow just two hits.
Helena returns to action tomorrow as Blake Lillis returns to the hill, looking for his third win. Idaho Falls counters with 2018 1st Round selection Kris Bubic. First pitch is at 7:05 PM, and tomorrow is Safe At Home Night presented by the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation. Tickets are available by visiting the ticketing page of helenabrewers.net.
