Castro Receives Minor League Gold Glove Award

Isotopes shortstop Daniel Castro has been named a 2017 Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipient as announced by Minor League Baseball and Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc. Castro is one of nine players across Minor League Baseball to obtain the honor and will receive his own Rawlings Gold Glove trophy, modeled after the iconic award given to Major League Baseball's top defensive players.

Castro was as solid as they come defensively as an infielder in 2017, displaying lightning quick reaction times, a dazzling glove and a cannon arm for the Isotopes. The 24-year-old led all Minor League shortstops with a .989 fielding percentage in 96 games at the position. Castro committed just five errors while leading the PCL with 435 total chances, 298 assists and turning 63 double plays. Castro was also voted by his teammates as the Isotopes Players Choice Award winner for Defensive Player of the Year.
 
The 2017 campaign was Castro's eighth in professional baseball and his first in the Rockies organization. The native of Guaymas, Mexico signed as a Minor League free agent with Colorado on Nov. 21, 2016. Castro spent the first seven years of his professional career in the Braves organization, appearing in 80 Major League games for Atlanta from 2015-16.
