CORPUS CHRISTI - Colin Barber and Chad Stevens teamed for four two-out RBIs in the eighth inning Tuesday night as the Hooks rallied for a 5-3 Fourth of July victory over San Antonio before a packed crowd of 7,421 fans at Whataburger Field.
Trailing 3-1 in the eighth, Corpus Christi managed to load the bases against Missions right-hander Kevin Kopps. After falling behind 0-2, Barber smoked a single into right field to chase home C.J. Stubbs and Drew Gilbert. Two pitches later, Stevens sent sharp grounder inside the bag at third for his second game-winning, two-run double in as many nights.
Ryan Gusto, who retired 12 of 13 in his second Double-A outing, picked up the win after penning a 1-2-3 ninth.
Aaron Brown made the start for the Hooks, spreading three runs (one earned) and four hits over five innings. Brown, who struck out five and did not issue a walk, owns a 1.93 ERA in his last six games (four starts).
J.C. Correa accounted for the first Hooks run via a sac fly in the second.
The Hooks, now 9-8 on Independence Day, have won two in a row after snapping a season-long, seven-game slide.
