ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists held on to beat the Winston-Salem Dash 5-4 on Thursday night in front of a strong Thirsty Thursday crowd at McCormick Field. The Dash erased three separate deficits in the game but were unable to erase a fourth and the Tourists collected the one-run victory.
Asheville jumped in front 2-0 with a pair of runs in the second inning. Zach Dezenzo led off the frame with a double and scored on Ryan Wrobleski’s double to right. The next batter, Tim Borden II, lined an RBI single up the right field line.
The Tourists starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, looked great in his five innings of work. Bellozo’s only blemish was a fastball he left up to Wilfred Veras. The Dash clean-up hitter parked it for a game-tying two-run Homer in the fourth.
Logan Cerny stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fifth and launched a solo Home Run to give Asheville a 3-2 lead. Winston-Salem tied the game back up on a run that scored via wild pitch in the top of the sixth.
Miguel Palma and Collin Price answered with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the sixth to put the home team in front 4-3. Once again, the Dash tied the score; this time on a two-out RBI single in the seventh.
Asheville took their fourth and final lead in the bottom of the seventh when Cerny hit his second Home Run of the game. Peyton Plumlee pitched the final two innings with the one-run advantage and made sure it held up.
The victory was Asheville’s first of the season in front of their home fans and it snapped a three-game losing skid overall. Game Four of the current series is set for Friday night at 6:35pm ET.
