Cervenka Named July Player of the Month
Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce Bowie Baysox catcher Martin Cervenka has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of July.

Cervenka hit .364 (24-for-66) with five doubles, seven home runs, 25 RBIs, 11 runs scored, a .436 on-base percentage, and a .758 slugging percentage in 20 games for the Baysox during the month. The 26-year old reached base in 16 of the 20 games he played in during the month of July and had multiple hits in eight of those games, including going 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and four RBIs in Bowie's 12-10 win at Erie on July 1st.
The 6'4", 225 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in slugging percentage (.758) and OPS (1.193) during the month of July. He also finished ranked among the monthly league leaders in RBIs (25-2nd), home runs (7-tied 2nd), batting average (.364-5th), on-base percentage (.436-5th), extra-base hits (12-tied 5th), and total bases (50-tied 6th).
Cervenka, who is a native of Prague, Czech Republic, was also a member of the Western Division roster for the 2018 Eastern League All-Star Game in Trenton on July 11th. He had two at bats in the game and went 0-for-1 with one walk.
Martin, who is hitting .264 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs in 81 games with the Baysox this season, was claimed by the Baltimore Orioles off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on December 14, 2017. He began his professional baseball career after signing with the Cleveland Indians on June 19, 2011.
