Bulls first baseman Austin Shenton mashed three hits, including a 2-run homer and shortstop Tristan Gray drove in a run, while Knights shortstop Erik Gonzalez and catcher Carlos Perez each went yard in Charlotte’s 4-3 victory over Durham on Thursday evening at Truist Field.
Shenton put the Bulls ahead with a 2-run homer in the opening frame before the Knights answered with a solo homer thanks to Gonzalez. Gray drove in a run in the sixth to extend Durham’s lead to 3-1. Perez mashed a 2-run homer to tie the score before pitcher Laz Rivera’s RBI single secured the win in ten innings.
Knights reliever Laz Rivera earned the victory (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO), while Bulls’ Carlos Garcia (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Friday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 7:04pm. RHP Cooper Criswell is anticipated to get the nod for Durham and be opposed by RHP Johan Dominguez.
The Bulls return home to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, September 12 to begin a six-game homestand with the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
