Peoria clubs two homers in Independence Day win

Peoria, IL -Stefan Trosclair and Ryan McCarvel homered for the Peoria Chiefs in a 5-1 win against the Beloit Snappers at Dozer Park in front of a sellout crowd of 7,129 on Tuesday evening. The Chiefs are 8-5 in the second half and 38-44 overall and will host the Snappers

Peoria, IL -Stefan Trosclair and Ryan McCarvel homered for the Peoria Chiefs in a 5-1 win against the Beloit Snappers at Dozer Park in front of a sellout crowd of 7,129 on Tuesday evening. The Chiefs are 8-5 in the second half and 38-44 overall and will host the Snappers in the second game of a three-game set on Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
    Matt Fiedler led off the third inning against Beloit starter Joseph Camacho with a double to left. Nick Plummer flew out to right on a hard-hit ball that allowed Fiedler to move to third base. Vince Jackson singled to right with two outs to score Fiedler and give the Chiefs a 1-0 advantage.

Peoria added to their lead against reliever Xavier Altamirano in the fourth inning. Stefan Trosclair led off by blasting his fifth home run of the year to left field to extend the Chiefs lead to 2-0. McCarvel reached on an infield single, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Juan Yepez singled to left field to put runners at the corners before stealing second. With one out, Matt Fiedler stroked a sacrifice fly to center field to score McCarvel and give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead.
    Beloit got on the board against Chiefs starter Juan Perez in the sixth. Mike Martin walked to lead off for the Snappers, going all the way to third base with a pair of steals. With one out, Luke Persico hit a ground ball to short stop to drive in Martin and make it a 3-1 Chiefs lead.
   Peoria added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth with Altamirano still on the mound for the Snappers. Trosclair led off with an infield single and scored when McCarvel launched his ninth home run of the season to center field to extend the Chiefs lead to 5-1.
    Perez (2-1) earned the win, throwing six innings while allowing one run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Keaton Siomkin threw two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits with a strikeout. Eric Carter threw the ninth, setting the side down in order with two strikeouts.
