Chiefs clipped by Indians, 2-1

Indianapolis, Indiana (August 11, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell, 2-1, to the Indianapolis Indians Friday night at Victory Field. Pedro Severino homered and Esmil Rogers hurled six innings of two-run ball, but it was not enough as the Indians' pitching staff held Syracuse to just five hits.

Syracuse (45-74) started the scoring in the second inning. Severino hit his fifth home run of the season deep to left-center field off Tyler Glasnow for a 1-0 lead.
Indianapolis (65-53) tied the game in the fourth. With two outs, Danny Ortiz lined a ball into left-center field that hit off the glove of a diving Zach Collier and fell for a double. Elias Díaz followed with an RBI single off Rogers to tie the game at one.
In the sixth, the Indians took the lead for good. Kevin Newman led off the inning with a single and was replaced by Max Moroff at first after a fielder's choice. After a strikeout, Oritz singled to score Moroff and give the Indians a 2-1 lead.
Glasnow finished the game with 11 strikeouts in seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball. For the Chiefs, Shawn Kelley threw a scoreless seventh on Major-League rehab and Wander Suero struck out three in the eighth. But Dovydas Neverauskas threw a scoreless ninth for the save.
The Chiefs and Indians return to Victory Field Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. John Simms is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Steven Brault for Indianapolis.
