Buffalo (64-75) jumped in front in the top of the third. Jason Leblebijian led off the frame with an infield single. Roemon Fields followed with a walk, and Christian Lopes singled to center to score Leblebijian, giving the Bisons a 1-0 lead. Fields and Lopes then pulled off a double steal to put two in scoring position, and Dwight Smith, Jr. singled them both home on a ground ball to center field for a 3-0 Buffalo lead.
The Bisons tacked on another run in the top of the sixth against Rafael Martín. With two outs in the frame, Leblebijian walked. Fields followed with a single to left, moving Leblebijian to third. Fields then stole second, his second steal of the game and 42nd of the season. Lopes walked to load the bases. Martin then walked Smith Jr., allowing Leblebijian to score to put the Bisons up 4-0.
For Syracuse (53-86), Kevin Jepsen had a solid outing out of the pen, striking out three batters in two scoreless innings. The right-hander has given up just three runs in his last 14 and one third innings pitched, dating back to July 27. Pedro Severino extended his International League on-base streak to 14 games with a single in the bottom of the second.
The Chiefs return to action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Esmil Rogers is slated to pitch for Syracuse while Murphy Smith is set to take the hill for Buffalo.
